A few years ago, I couldn't imagine the life I'm living today.
My wedding had been cancelled. My heart was broken. I was raising my daughter on my own, and every family holiday felt like a reminder of what I'd lost.
Fast forward to this summer, and I've just returned from our first big blended family holiday.
Two adults. Three teenage girls. One week in Rhodes.
Was it perfect?
Absolutely not.
There were arguments, late mornings, wet towels left everywhere, and enough teenage hormones to keep my cortisol levels sky high.
But there was also laughter, connection, memories we'll never forget, and one overwhelming feeling.
This life was worth waiting for.
When my relationship ended in 2018, I wasn't just grieving a person.
I was grieving the future I'd planned.
The wedding.
The family.
The home.
The life I thought I'd have.
Like so many women, I became desperate to fill the void. I wanted someone to rescue me from the pain. I dated, I threw myself into work, I became fiercely independent, and I convinced myself I was doing everything right.
But underneath it all, I was still looking for someone else to make me feel whole.
Everything changed when I started working with a life coach.
Instead of focusing on finding the right relationship, I started looking at the relationship I had with myself.
I began understanding why I was attracted to certain people.
Why I feared being alone.
How my childhood experiences had shaped my beliefs about love.
Why my subconscious kept repeating the same patterns.
Healing wasn't about becoming a different person.
It was about becoming more myself.
For the first time, I felt emotionally safe without needing someone else to create that feeling for me.

When I met my Ed, I knew I wanted to do things differently.
As a mum, protecting my daughter was my priority.
I wasn't interested in introducing her to people who might disappear from her life a few months later.
I wanted stability.
I wanted consistency.
I wanted her to see what a healthy relationship actually looks like.
Over time, our families came together.
It wasn't instant.
It wasn't effortless.
Like every blended family, we've had to learn each other's routines, personalities and ways of doing things.
Now we share a home, school runs, family dinners and holidays.
It's busy.
It's noisy.
It's sometimes exhausting.
And I wouldn't change it.
Our first big blended family holiday was everything I hoped for and nothing like I imagined.

Three teenage girls don't always agree.
Getting everyone ready for breakfast became an Olympic event.
There were moments of frustration, negotiation and plenty of eye rolling.
There were also afternoons snorkelling in crystal-clear water, a ride on a inflatable pulled by a speed boat, hiring a boat and watching the girls laugh together.
Those are the moments I'll remember.
Not because everything was perfect.
Because it was real.
Family life isn't about perfection.
It's about creating memories together, even when life feels wonderfully messy.

One of the biggest lessons I've learned is this.
Healthy relationships don't begin when you meet the right person.
They begin when you become emotionally safe within yourself.
Before I met my Ed, I had already started creating the life I wanted.
I knew my values.
I understood my relationship patterns.
I stopped looking for someone to save me.
That changed everything.
Many of the women I work with tell me they want a relationship, but they're terrified of trusting again.
They're worried about introducing someone to their children.
They're afraid of getting hurt.
They've convinced themselves it's safer to stay single forever.
I understand those fears because I've lived them.
There was a time when I couldn't imagine feeling happy again, let alone building a blended family with someone I love.
Then, on holiday, I sat watching the sun rise over the sea, and I was reminded of one of my favourite lines from Cast Away:
"Tomorrow the sun will rise. Who knows what the tide could bring?"
Back then, I couldn't have imagined this life.
I couldn't have imagined the partner I'd meet, the home we'd build, the holidays we'd share, or the beautiful chaos of blending our families.
You can't see what's waiting for you from where you are today.
So if your heart is hurting right now, keep breathing. Keep healing. Keep choosing yourself.
Tomorrow the sun will rise.
And who knows what the tide could bring.

It begins the moment you choose yourself.

When I started with Rachel, I was stuck in the past
ruminating about imaginary conversations & going over things I wish had done differently. I was exhausted.
The timeline work reminded me of who I am & what I want for my Life - regardless of who I am in a relationship with. I am feeling happier for longer periods of the day & I can see a way forward & a life waiting for me when I'm ready
